  1. Indie CRPGs - post 'em if you find 'em

Second Chance, I enjoyed both Excelsiors back in the day. Nothing fancy, but enjoyable. Excelsior 2 had pretty good music, I thought.
  2. new screenshots of Geneforge 3

He also said it was tricky to balance, even from the get go. He had a quote talking about balancing a basic blaster, and how having it act in a fashion most people would expect would make it pretty powerful - like 1 and 2 hit kills powerful. And I don't think I'd want to play a sci fi CRPG...
  3. new screenshots of Geneforge 3

Recall that Geneforge started out as a full fledged Sci-Fi CRPG. He ditched the full theme, though. Did you play to the end of Geneforge 2 And in several of the GF1 endings, he discusses this at length (you are probably aware). I remember the "use the GF, don't destroy it" ending (or one...
  4. Fun in #sacred - Accusing the Seraphim of being WEAK

Glad to hear that, I think I'll reinstall soon. I used to spend about an hour or more on my "upgrade" binges, at those two shopkeepers in the big town in the middle/north ish of the map (you had to do a quest before you could access them,b ut they were so convienent). I was never crazy...
  5. Preview GameSpy does CRPGs for Autumn

to be fair, I think this goes back ti W&W, which had some nice ideas and touches but was way buggy and way flawed. I think it showed his time might have passsed, and that was years (and so many god awful interviews/previews) ago. I wish him well, in any case.
  6. Development Info Discord Times hits 1.1

Well, I'm going to try this at some point. Timered demo makes me wary, though. I hate that. Some impressions: Is anyone besides me finding the game hard? I started the campaign, and I got through the first map. There was a completely unwinnable battle in it. The units were all "second...
  7. Fun in #sacred - Accusing the Seraphim of being WEAK

Worth playing? Frankly, the game at release was fairly imbalanced and meh (so many drops, so little to actually care about. . .). I don't see the balance getting a ton better (but what do I know). I haven't played since patch 1.2 maybe (it was a long time ago). Perhaps I'll reinstall.
  8. Georg Zoeller on innovation in Bioware games

From the article: Let's see: "Action Based Combat" - well, not new. but that also depends on how you define RPG O suppose. Given the context, I'd say the definition is slightly loose, and as such this feature is way into not new territory. Which isn't to say that Jade won't bring...
  9. For Sacred, what is your character?

I'll take my chances with what the manual says, and the fact that a Battle mage when in the teens was seeing much better items on a consistent basis than a gladiator in the 30s. Items sold are definately a partial function of character level. Trade has had a big impact for me. You still...
  10. For Sacred, what is your character?

With trading of over 10, my battlemage sees lots of multi-socket items. she also sees items with more powerful abilities. EX: str+12 on a belt instead of up to +6 or so. Trade is worth it. I see 2 socket items fairly regularly (criticla for a Battlemage), but my level 32ish gladiator doesn't...
  11. Review GameSpot criticizes Sacred

I haven't experienced this at all. My Ghost meadow lasts 50 seconds, recharges in 9, and improves regen like 260%. When I use it, my other spells just take their normal recharge times. As for the mage spells, you have to socket them mostly. Socketing a rune gives full benefits from...
  12. Development Info Gearhead gets graphical

How do I deal with tiredness? I don't want to tab through NPCs. I want to hit a key, and have their names appear over their head. Like Geneforge. Writing down names on notepad doesn't fix the problem. Everyone looks the same.
  13. Development Info Gearhead gets graphical

Does anyone know what causes stats to go down? The interface could use some work, as well as information presentation (a Genforge like tab function to name all visible NPCs on the map would be fantastic). But I like what I see thusfar.
  14. Preview The Wargamer looks at Sacred

Shades of grey - Geneforge & Geneforge II. As for Richer Gameplay Experience (tm) - if poorly done those "choices" will probably either be cosmetic or hurt gameplay. Not that I don't like them well done, but then I don't mind every game not having them.
  15. Game News Meet Grafan, a new uber cool action RPG

Hell, I'm an industry veteran. That doesn't mean jack. If that's all you have to hang your hat on, you're going about things the wrong way.
