  1. KickStarter SKALD: Against the Black Priory - retro RPG inspired by Ultima

Bought it as I said I would. I did not expect the discount, so this is a steal. I plan on playing it a lot this weekend. Will write a formal review when done, I think.
  2. What's the dialog like in these top RPGs?

Your selection of the Pet Pal talent was vindicated. If talking to beasts is a problem, then you were barking up the wrong tree with that talent. While I agree that Larian writing is tacky and often without taste, I give them a bit of a pass because their games are made as games. They...
  3. Game News Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 Clan Highlight: Ventrue

About Bloodlines 1, more than Dominate and Dement could be used in non-combat situations. Presence was also a dialogue option, and Obfuscate allowed the player to directly avoid combat. I think the Camarilla Mod did a good job reworking the clan abilities in that regard. For example, Dominate...
  4. KickStarter SKALD: Against the Black Priory - retro RPG inspired by Ultima

The magic-system has been redesigned somewhat, making spellcasters a lot more powerful and fun to play. Also added a few new spells. Leveling up spellcaster Feats allows you to now manually select new spells (it used to be auto assigned) Very pleased to read this. Magic was weak and rather...
  5. What's the dialog like in these top RPGs?

You're very charitable with your definition if AAA, but all of these games have average/acceptable dialogue. DOS has more cheeky humor while PoE has purple prose. Both overstay their welcome. This applies to the writing of their respective plots as well. I was able to finish DOS, but I quit PoE...
  6. Baldur's Gate Baldur's Gate 3 Anti-Woke Mods

Intriguing. I still haven't played this yet because I am waiting for the dust to settle, but this is a good thread. I will bookmark it. Not sure if I will use these for my first run though. Most likely not.
  7. Why the majority of the codex dont play the true classics?

Probably the oldest RPGs I played was Dark Queen of Krynn and Eye of the Beholder (II?). One of my all time favorites is Betrayal at Krondor though. I really wish that game would get a graphical remaster.
  8. Game News Dark Envoy gets a Director's Cut update

The art style is a bit uninspired, but the combat in this game looks good to me. I'm very disappointed by the tepid to negative sentiment the locals here have given the game. I'm kind of tempted to try it anyway.
  9. Fallout Fallout 4 Thread

I never played this game, but seeing this shit made me genuinely LOL. Is this game really so bad?
  10. Baldur's Gate Baldur's Gate 3 RELEASE THREAD

Fall From Grace in PST. Great character and the only one who can heal, but was mostly dead weight in combat. Her spell list was small, weak, and mostly irrelevant considering the protagonist is immortal and regenerates. I remember healing items being common, not that you really need them anyway.
  11. Capcom Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen

I am still adventuring through BBI. For the most part I can do solid damage to everything, but I still routinely encounter rather ordinary foes that I can barely scratch. For example, there are slow wailing zombies that even fire and holy take forever to harm, or some spellcasting goblins that I...
  12. Pathfinder Pathfinder: Kingmaker - Enhanced Plus Edition - now with turn-based combat

Kingdom Management was fine, it just needed to be more transparent with its mechanics. There are tons of gates and restrictions invisible to the player for improving ranks and expanding your territory. If the game wasn't time sensitive, that would have been tolerable, if still annoying. Players...
  13. Game News Hidden Pass now on Kickstarter

I could go for something weird, like the RTS game Sacrifice, but this isn't it. It looks more Blizzard inspired than anything.
  14. Incline RPG Codex's Best RPGs - 2024 - VOTING IS CLOSED

Fink I don't expect the list to be static, but I expect GOAT to evolve slowly. Two games being in the top 1/3 now vanishing merely 5 years later is not a good sign. Diablo 2 shifting 24 ranks lower to its prior position relative to D1 is not a good sign for a GOAT list. It suggest we have major...
