How many of you played Prelude to Darkness?

Have you played and completed PtD?

  • Completed multiple times

  • Completed once

  • Played and abandoned

  • Currently doing the first playthrough

  • Never played but I plan to

  • Never played, never will (I'm a big Starfield fan though)

  • What is PtD? (I'm retarded)

I'm curious how many 'dexers actually played PtD.

I played it many years ago, great game. I also played a little the newest version, but forgot to play it more.

I tried it years ago, but I abandoned it due to constant crashing. I've been meaning to give the updated version a try, but I keep forgetting.

I completed it a few months ago. Had a great time, game gives you many interesting quests and locations, camera is terrible through and combat could be a little faster, but overall great experience. I will definitely go for second playthrough.

Which version of the game have you played? Original one, or community patched one?

Completed 1.4 back in the day and the patched up version. Tried 1.7-1.8 a few years back but the crashing on modern systems was too brutal.

I might have finished it before the last of asd and the other guy whose name I can never remember finished it up. If more people play test and report bugs there would probably be more patches.

I'm retarded and couldn't figure out how to get 2.12 working, so I have 1.8. I plan to play through it at some point. The intro cutscene + chargen already look really promising.

I used OpenGL version by asfasdf & Tramboi from your collection thread. Also thanks for pulling together all the information on the game. It made my first playthrough much smoother.

I might give it a try if I can get past the extremely dated graphics and the very drab color palette.

Tried it once for something like 30 minutes, it crashed lots. The last time it crashed I couldn't be bothered to start it up again, and I haven't touched it since. I'm not in any particular rush to get back to it.

Played it for 10 minutes, turned it off, it's waiting for me to get back to it.

Too many such cases.

I got some sort of error message when I tried to run Prelude32.exe, so idk what I did wrong.

Did you perhaps copy the 64 bit binaries over instead? Have to pick and choose which version you want to use.

Okay, so actually about half of people here gave it at least a try. Much better result than I expected. Half of those who tried abandoned it though, I assume in majority of cases they played it long time ago and the old version, so they just got annoyed with constant crashes, which is understandable. Anyway, in such case I'd recommend them giving the new version a try. Unless, of course, someone just didn't like the game.

I didn't experience a single crash or bug, but I completed the first town, found it dull and ugly to look at and considered this stuff gross.
