My personal recomnendation for a newcomer to the series will always be Romancing SaGa 3.
It's the easiest one to get into, imo.
Frontier is my personal favourite. There are 7 (8 for steam version?) different characters/storylines, with a wide range from handholding 'here's your next mission, you aren't allowed to go anywhere else' to 'do literally whatever the fuck you want, we forgot to give this character any storyline at all'. The systems are pretty interesting, with a combination of intuitiveness and esoteric clusterfuck that keep things from being either too simple or too complex when it comes to making choices. And the setting is just rad. Pocket dimensions ranging from ancient magical ruins or wilderness to cyberpunk dystopia.Which SaGa game should I buy? RS2, RS3, MS or Frontier?
Awesome game, but maybe one of the more difficult as an entry to the series.Got drunk and bought Minstrel Song. Let's see what happens.
Ultimately Minstrel Song was the most aesthetically pleasing game with the most QoL features added in, or at least that's how it seemed to me.Awesome game, but maybe one of the more difficult as an entry to the series.Got drunk and bought Minstrel Song. Let's see what happens.
I'm curious though, why you chose not to follow any of our recommendations?
Well which character did you pick? (don't say Albert)Got drunk and bought Minstrel Song. Let's see what happens.

Most SaGas allow you to do scenarios in whatever order you feel like. Some of them have a board gamey feel to them. Others have many different types of eras/periods/genres, like fantasy, cyberpunk, blahblahblah in the same game. All of them offer a challenge. Music is great in all games. Combat is fun, and seeing your characters develop is nice. The skill sparking gives you a dopamine kick (lol). They are also obtuse as fuck, and you'll have to figure out a lot of shit on your own. This puts off a lot of people, while I love it. They're a blend of jrpg and crpg, in my opinion.I only tried one of the SaGa games on PSX I think it was. Bounced off it hard. What's the draw to this series? Other than art by Sami Kamurocho or whatever.
