Hooo, I thought my Comitatus was going to be ready for this, but 400 Bross to access the new content is a fairly steep entrance fee. Guess it's time to start grinding trade routes again... I've played this game for quite awhile, but still sometimes I feel like I'm missing something, especially when having 400 Bross on hand is considered "fairly early game." For reference, I'm hovering around 250 Bross at the moment. It'll probably take a good hour of trading to get up to 400 again.

So I just picked this up. How grindy is making money? I've been doing faction missions and trading for about two hours and I barely got anywhere.

On the more difficult mode. Might have to actually look up a guide.

It's slow at first when you're building up your caravan. I'd like to give you a better explanation, but if you see my above post, I'm apparently not the one to be asking!

Yeah, the start is very slow. You need to do a few missions and compare prices to slowly make a greater profit after each travel. Same as you, I restarted and played for 2 hours yesterday and I was a bit shocked how i was 2 inches from death each travel compared to what I what I could do with a save I lost 2 years ago. It is a slow process of not paying your crew(when needed), feeding them little or not and lashing you slaves at first.

The thing for me is to slowly get Insight(Exp) every time I can to raise the stats for my style of play. So it will involve quests, lore entries, getting the good equipments, more beast of burden and getting the companions on the road.

One of my favorite investments in Insight is the perk Encourage which raise the moral(once every 8 or 3days), the Traverse perk which convert a few forced march points in movement points(I dont remember the cooldown) and then the Exploits perk to change the faction contracts choices of a settlement(I dont remember the cooldown either, probably 2 or 3 days))

If you already have been to Tor'Zag Shelter once, go toward the Twin Towers at the end of the southern road, you will meet a friendly companion. You can find another on the imperial north road to Deven too if I recall right

Good luck man.

It is not grindy for me,most of the time you reinvest your money and buy all kind of shit to make more money or to be stronger. You gibs are constantly in flux since you have quite a lot of way to spend money and feel like progressing. You could have like 2000 of big money, but most of them in artefacts, slaves, beasts, cargo etc etc, while having 50 gibs on hand :). Making gibs feels very good in this game. Jews should make it a requirement for their schools. It have their favourite way of making a lot of gibz.....slavery :).

I just started farming the escort missions. Hire a bunch of fighters -> Immediately lose half of them -> Don't have to pay upkeep :smug:

Wish there was more to do in crew combat.

To be fair, fanta, you do use an unlimited ration hack. Without that attrition hanging over your head, making money is about 1000x easier. It mostly trivializes any kind of planning you have to do in terms of routes and distances. The only real limiters at that point for trading is contract time limits and random encounters, once you get over the initial hurdle.

LoL you know me too well bro :) . Fair enough,i would say that it is a bit more grindy without the supplies. To be honest the supply system is the weakest part of the game. The game still have plenty of challenges without the supplies being a thing for me. In me defence....i have a life and work outside of gaming, don't enjoy wasting time on try hard shit. Should have implemented no a supply game option or something similar.

It's not really grindy. While you do return to important locations often, there's loads of content in each that's fed to you gradually - there's always something to do wherever you go, some side quest to advance or challenge to overcome. As you get better, you also tend to expand your routes as it's usually more profitable, meaning you return to the same locations less often. Getting a lot of money is less hard than it might seem - usually you're only blowing fat stacks of coin on sidequest shit rather than it being part of regular expenses (unless shit hits the fan, of course). If you decide to save up for something and stop this spending, the money usually accumulates fairly quick.

Looks great. The setting reminds me of dark sun. Does it have a main quest/plot?

No, not realy. You have 3 goals you have to achieve to win the game within 10 or 12 ingame years
The 1st is about collecting as much wealth as possible to retire and never worry about money again(Never did this one).
The 2nd is the Renown one which involves your renown stat and exploring the map as much as possible.
The 3rd is the Knowledge one, which consists in gathering all codex/lore entries in the game(I stopped around 94 to 98% myself and called it a day).
The last one is Freeplay, no real goal, no real victory but you can chose your type of victory later on.

Outside of this, as far as a "main" quest, there are not realy a any kind of event connecting everyting together. But you have pretty big side quests with bug big implications in the setting and there are a few events happeing in certain regions leading to more or less big quests.

I haven't played it, but from reading reviews it looks like though it doesn't have a main quest per se it has a lot of text/story/context for the stuff you do.

The game is completable and there is a central storyline running through the setting. It's got enough direction and end goal to satisfy me. For example, I love Kenshi, but its complete lack of questing and end game end up killing for me every time I try to pick it back up. This game does not have that problem.

Kenshi had a story running through the setting, it's just pretty well hidden and you have to find and piece it together yourself. Getting to Ashlands and defeating Cat-Lon can be considered intended endgame goal.

Why does this game have an arbitrary time limit on completing it?
No idea. At least I have not met any "good" reason ingame. My longest game was around 5, 6 or 7 years and never reached the deadline, so I could not verifiy if any end-time event happens.

It seems more like a game design decision more than anything. At least to me.

The two worst things about the game i had forgotten are the retarded loyalty system and the fucking evasion in companion combat.
